TEMPO.COJakarta - The land route connecting Sumatra to Tapanuli Tengah Regency has been severed due to landslides in North Sumatra Province. This information was conveyed by the Regent of Tapanuli Tengah, Masinton Pasaribu.

"The land route to Tapanuli Tengah Regency, whether from Tapanuli Utara, Humbang Hasundutan, or Kota Padangsidimpuan, is cut off due to landslides," he said in a written statement on Friday, November 28, 2025.

The widespread damage to roads and bridges in Tapanuli Tengah Regency, a direct result of the disaster, has severely delayed the distribution of aid. "Most of the villages in Tapanuli Tengah are still inaccessible by land due to being covered by landslides," the Regent explained.

Masinton stated that aid delivery is currently being conducted via air or sea routes. "Urgent aid is being distributed from Pinangsori Airport, Tapanuli Tengah," said the PDIP politician.

In addition to the damage to road infrastructure, the disaster in Tapanuli Tengah has also led to power outages and internet disruptions. He confirmed that as of Friday, November 28, 2025, telecommunication and internet networks throughout the Tapanuli Tengah Regency were still disconnected.

Flooding and landslides in Tapanuli Tengah Regency have also claimed lives. Masinton stated that preliminary data recorded 34 deaths and 33 people still missing. "The number of casualties is likely to increase," he cautioned.

Masinton also mentioned that his administration has been providing assistance to the victims who sustained injuries. He said that 26 people are still receiving inpatient care in hospitals or health facilities.

"We are still preparing emergency response documents as well as a letter from the Regent to the National Food Agency to meet the food needs for community kitchens," said the PDIP politician.

Tapanuli Tengah Regency is one of the areas most severely affected by flooding and landslides in North Sumatra Province. Flooding and landslides have also occurred in Tapanuli Selatan Regency, Mandailing Natal Regency, Tapanuli Utara Regency, Nias, and the cities of Gunung Sitoli and Sibolga.

Based on preliminary data compiled by the North Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency, 48 people have been declared dead and several others are still missing across the province.
