TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The city of Solo in Indonesia is once again preparing to welcome the spirit of Christmas. The Christmas Committee Together 2025 is preparing a series of festive events that will be held throughout December 2025 until early January 2026.
This year, the Christmas celebration carries the theme "God is Present to Save the Family" with the sub-theme "Spirit of Goodness". This theme is expected not only to be a religious moment but also to provide a joyous tourist experience for the local residents and visitors from outside the city.
The General Chairperson of the Christmas Committee Together 2025, Wiryawan Arya, stated that Solo is reaffirming itself as a city that is friendly to all layers of society, including in celebrating religious holidays.
"We want this Christmas to be a space for togetherness, as well as to bring a lively atmosphere to the city, which can be enjoyed by all residents and tourists," said Wiryawan during a Press Conference at PMS Building Solo, Central Java, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Jenderal Sudirman Street to Be Illuminated with Christmas Lanterns
The icon of Christmas in Solo this year will be most prominent along Jenderal Sudirman Street to the clock tower at Pasar Besar. From December 1, 2025, to January 8, 2026, the main thoroughfare in the city center will be transformed into a brightly lit corridor with installations such as Christmas Tree Lanterns and LED Christmas Trees, Christmas Tree Mascot, Nativity Scene, thematic Photobooth, Tom & Jerry characters, Harp Angels, Rotating deer, Juggling bear, Hanging lanterns, Christmas gate, and curtain lights.
The Executive Head of Christmas Together 2025, Sumartono Hadinoto, explained that there is a slight difference in the number of Christmas trees compared to previous years. While there were usually only 12 Christmas trees, this year, 17 Christmas trees have been installed.
"As usual, we have installed several lanterns including 17 Christmas trees. Then various Christmas characters in front of the City Hall are also set up during each year for a change," said Sumartono.
The lighting of the lanterns and Christmas trees will take place from December 4, 2025, to January 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This lantern corridor is expected to become a new tourist magnet during the holiday season, as well as a favorite family destination for taking photos and enjoying the Christmas atmosphere at night.
Blood Donation Social Service in 9 Mall and Public Space Locations
The committee also collaborated with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Solo City and the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI) to hold a series of blood donation events at various shopping centers, starting from Solo Paragon Mall, Solo Square, Beteng Trade Center, to The Park Solo Baru.
"The activities will be held from December 1 to 20, 2025, with the hope of assisting in the fulfillment of blood supply needs towards the end of the year," said Wiryawan.
Parade, Joint Christmas Worship, and MSME Bazaar Enliven the City Hall
One of the favorite events for the public, the Christmas Parade and Christmas Bazaar, will be held once again in the northern courtyard of the Surakarta City Hall. The activities will commence with the Lighting of the Christmas Lights event on December 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the City Hall Plaza.
The MSME Bazaar will take place in three waves, namely from December 4 to 7, 2025, December 12 to 14, 2025, and December 19 to 21, 2025. With the operational hours of the bazaar from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM and the parade from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. In addition to bringing a joyous festive atmosphere, the bazaar is expected to serve as a promotional platform for local MSMEs during the year-end holiday season.
The peak of the series of activities will take place on January 8, 2026, in the form of the Joint Christmas Worship by the Surakarta City Government in the Pendhapi Balaikota. The celebration will be led by Ps. Nita Setiawan, with praises by Jason Irwan.
