TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tourists traveling to Singapore are now not only visiting shopping centers or popular destinations. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) sees tourists seeking more experiences, such as participating in sports events, attending concerts, and engaging in art and cultural-based tourism.
In 2025, the number of Indonesian tourists visiting Singapore reached 2.4 million, accounting for about 14 percent of the total global tourist visits to Singapore. Terrence Voon, the Executive Director for Southeast Asia at STB, stated that Indonesia remains the second largest tourism market for Singapore after China, and the largest in Southeast Asia. "Therefore, Indonesia is a very important market for us," he said during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TransNusa in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Various exciting attractions will be held throughout the remainder of 2026. These include The Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, which will take place at the Marina Bay Street Circuit from October 9 to 11, 2026, and concerts featuring Janet Jackson and CORTIS. The most anticipated concerts are by BIGBANG on October 17, 2026, and BTS on December 17, 19, 20, and 22, 2026. Other new destinations include Rainforest Wild Asia, an indoor multimedia attraction themed around nature called Exploria, and an indoor playscape themed around nature, known as Curiosity Cave at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
The Fly-Cruise Concept
Observing the shift in trends, the Singapore Tourism Board has teamed up with TransNusa to develop the fly-cruise concept. This new way allows Indonesian tourists to enjoy two types of vacations in one trip to Singapore. It starts with a flight on TransNusa to Singapore, spending one night in the city, and then continuing the journey with a two to four-night cruise.
"This concept allows tourists to enjoy both city and sea vacations," said Terrence Voon. Singapore is a cruise hub in Southeast Asia, with a variety of cruise ships departing from Singapore, including Disney Adventure by Disney Cruise Line, Genting Dream by Star Dream Cruises, Navigator of the Seas by Royal Caribbean, and Royal Princess by Princess Cruises.
Meanwhile, Datuk Bernard Francis, the Group Chief Executive Director of TransNusa Aviation, added that this collaboration also adds value for tourists who want to visit Singapore. "We believe that this collaboration will further strengthen the tourism and aviation sectors between Indonesia and Singapore," he said.
Currently, TransNusa operates three daily flights from Jakarta to Singapore and two daily flights from Denpasar to Singapore. Recently, TransNusa received the Top Airlines by Absolute Passenger Growth award at the 2026 Changi Airline Awards held by the Changi Airport Group.
