TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Real Madrid concluded the 2025/2026 La Liga season with a 4-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao in Matchday 38 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, early Sunday morning WIB (Western Indonesian Time), May 24, 2026.
According to the La Liga website, the victory secured Madrid's second-place finish with 86 points. Athletic Bilbao, meanwhile, finished 12th with 42 points.
The match was also an emotional one, marking the final matches for Daniel "Dani" Carvajal and David Alaba for Real Madrid.
Despite being certain of failing to win the title, Real Madrid still fielded their best team in front of their home crowd. Alvaro Arbeloa's team immediately played aggressively from the start and dominated the match.
Madrid took the lead in the 12th minute through Gonzalo Garcia. He capitalized on a Dani Carvajal cutback before unleashing a right-footed shot that Alex Padilla couldn't stop.
In the 40th minute, Jude Bellingham doubled Madrid's lead after finishing off a Thiago Pitarch pass. The English midfielder's goal put Los Blancos up 2-0.
However, Athletic refused to give up. Five minutes later, Gorka Guruzeta reduced the deficit with an effective finish to make it 2-1. The score remained that way until halftime.
Entering the second half, the match became more open, with both teams creating chances.
Madrid widened the lead again in the 50th minute through Kylian Mbappé to put his team ahead, 3-1.
Athletic continued to press forward, but Madrid's defense was able to withstand the visitors' pressure. Madrid's second goal came in the 88th minute through Brahim Diaz. The referee reviewed the VAR for a suspected offside before finally allowing the goal. The score was now 4-1.
Athletic Bilbao reduced the deficit two minutes later through Urko Izeta. However, the goal was not enough to change the final score. Real Madrid won 4-2.
