TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chair of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), Raja Sapta Oktohari, claimed that preparation for the contingent for the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand has reached 99 percent. A total of 996 athletes will depart to compete, aiming for 80 gold medals.
He revealed that President Prabowo Subianto will lead the farewell event for the SEA Games 2025 athletes on Friday, December 5, 2025. "So I have confirmed the date of December 5th, at 4 PM, the official farewell for the athletes will be conducted by the President of the Republic of Indonesia," he said when met at his office in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025.
According to Raja, who is familiarly addressed as Okto, before that, the athletes will attend an inauguration event by the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) and will be observed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir. The event will take place on the same day, at 1 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time). "Officially, this marks the official departure of the Indonesian team for the SEA Games 2025," he said.
Okto emphasized that all preparations for the SEA Games have been carried out meticulously. Several athletes have already flown to Thailand earlier. He said one of them is the Indonesian U-23 national team, which departed on Friday, November 28. In addition, the golf branch also departed earlier.
Some sports branches departed earlier due to their match schedules ahead of the official opening of the 2025 SEA Games on December 9. "Some athletes have already departed earlier because there are matches before the opening," he said.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, along with the SEA Games 2025 assessment team, aims for Indonesia to maintain its third-place finish from the previous edition in Cambodia two years ago, provided it wins 80 gold medals. All sports branches have agreed upon the decision.
A total of 996 athletes from Indonesia will depart for the 2025 SEA Games. They will compete in 48 sports branches, out of the 51 contested in the Southeast Asian sporting event.
