TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Currency and Commodities Observer Ibrahim Assuaibi stated that the market is currently awaiting the state speech by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and the Financial Note of the 2026 State Budget Draft. As planned, Prabowo will deliver a speech at the Parliament Building in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, today, Friday, August 15, 2025.
The President's speech will provide an overview of the State Budget and the government's priority programs for the next year. The two speeches to be delivered by President Prabowo need to be enjoyed promptly. President Prabowo is scheduled to deliver two state speeches at the commemoration of Indonesia's 80th Independence Day. The speeches could affect the exchange rate of the rupiah.
Previously, Ibrahim estimated that the rupiah's exchange rate in today's trading, Friday, August 15, 2025, would strengthen. He mentioned that the exchange rate of the rupiah to the U.S. dollar would strengthen in the range of Rp16,060 to Rp16,120. "The rupiah currency is fluctuating but closed stronger in the range of Rp16,060 - Rp16,120," Ibrahim said in a written statement on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The rupiah exchange rate in yesterday's afternoon trading, Thursday, August 14, 2025, closed stronger by 87 points at Rp16,201 per U.S. dollar. In the previous trading, the rupiah strengthened by 120 points.
The latest U.S. inflation data strengthens expectations that the Federal Reserve (Fed) will cut interest rates at its monetary policy meeting in September. The latest U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report shows that monthly core inflation in July increased as expected, while the annual inflation rate slightly decreased below expectations.
Traders are closely watching the summit meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage on Friday, which could lead to the relaxation of Russian crude oil sanctions and even further actions against buyers.
