TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto did not anticipate that the challenges his administration would face would be more difficult than initially estimated. According to the Head of State, the government has encountered various problems over the past 21 months, including low teacher welfare, limited job opportunities, extreme poverty, and economic inequality.
"As the President, along with Vice President (Gibran Rakabuming Raka), we took an oath, and I myself did not expect how some of these problems were really beyond our initial estimates," said Prabowo during the Full Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, July 20, 2026.
The Gerindra Party chair explained that one of the main issues is the substantial loss of state wealth each year.
"There has been a distortion in our economy. Our wealth has flowed out significantly, trillions of rupiah, hundreds of billions of US dollars every year," said Prabowo.
Prabowo claims that this leakage is caused by various illegal practices, including under-invoicing, transfer pricing, and smuggling.
Prabowo stated that these unfair practices have been a long-standing issue. "These are truly unreasonable and unfair to our nation," said Prabowo.
