TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has urged his ministers to swiftly coordinate the handling of disaster-struck regions, said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya.
"The President requests swift coordination. Act quickly to handle the disasters," Bima said after the limited meeting between Prabowo and relevant ministers at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Several ministers attended the meeting today: Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa; Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto; Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia; Bima Arya Sugiarto; and COO of Danantara Dony Oskaria.
Bima stated that Prabowo also requested the ministers to coordinate priority programs to face the year-end situation.
Extreme Weather in North Sumatra Kills at Least 9
The extreme weather that began impacting North Sumatra on November 25, 2025, has generated floods and landslides across four cities/regencies: Sibolga, Tapanuli Utara, Tapanuli Tengah, and Tapanuli Selatan.
Abdul Muhari, spokesperson at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), indicated that the resulting floodwaters over the last two days flowed intensely and inundated residential properties.
The calamity swept away vehicles and damaged other critical infrastructure in its path. "The water flow also carried materials such as mud, tree trunks, building debris, and household waste," said Abdul in his written statement on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Data compiled by the North Sumatra Regional Police indicates that four residents in Tapanuli Tengah have died as a direct consequence of this disaster. Concurrently, in Sibolga, five fatalities were reported during the incident.
"Preliminary data on 4 deaths in Tapanuli Tengah, and 5 in Sibolga. In addition, 2,543 households were affected, with 445 of them evacuating, and a number of roads being cut off," announced North Sumatra Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Commissioner Besar Ferry Walintukan, in a written statement on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Floods in Aceh Displace Thousands
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to flooding in at least 9 cities and districts in Aceh Province. The Aceh Disaster Management Agency reported that the floods occurred in Bireuen Regency, Lhokseumawe, East Aceh, Langsa, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues, South Aceh, North Aceh, and South Aceh.
In a written statement published on the official website, the agency noted that the heavy rainfall had caused flooding since November 18, 2025. Until November 26, 2025, 9 areas were affected by floods, including Langsa. The agency noted that the high rainfall, strong winds, and unstable geological conditions not only caused the floods but also landslides.
As a result of this incident, 455 households consisting of 1,497 individuals have been displaced. "As of November 26, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. (floods) have affected 14,235 households or 46,893 individuals, and 455 households/1,497 individuals were displaced," quoted on Thursday.
