TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attributes artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology as key to poverty eradication and strengthen food resilience.
"As we all know, we are entering a new era marked by advances in cutting-edge technology, especially in artificial intelligence (AI). We also understand that we must face the challenges brought by demographic changes," Prabowo said while addressing the 2nd session of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting at Hwabaek International Convention Centre (HICO), Gyeongju, South Korea, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, as quoted from the official statement of the Presidential Secretariat.
In the context of Indonesia, Prabowo emphasized that the government is committed to eradicating poverty and starvation with swift and measured actions, viewing both as the most urgent tasks in national development.
"This is why it's the most urgent task for Indonesia and we continue to tell our economic partners to address poverty and hunger as swiftly as possible," he said. "We are centering all our efforts on this. Therefore, we believe that we can obtain great benefits from the use of artificial intelligence."
The head of state explained that Indonesia is now beginning to reap tangible results from AI use in the agricultural sector. According to him, modern technology enables the growth of national food productivity to achieve self-sufficiency in rice and corn.
Prabowo said Indonesia already uses artificial intelligence in the agricultural sector to develop precise and modern farming techniques. The use of AI, he said, enables Indonesia to achieve self-sufficiency in rice and corn production.
"Our initial target was to achieve self-sufficiency in four years, but with the use of high technology, precision farming, and artificial intelligence, we have successfully increased production to the highest level in Indonesia's history since its independence," he said.
President Prabowo emphasized that mastering technology is the key to the nation's progress and can only be achieved through close collaboration with Asia Pacific countries. "I believe this is the direction we should take going forward. We must ensure control over our technological future, and I believe that through cooperation within APEC, we can achieve this goal," said Prabowo.
