TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will discuss the conflict in Gaza with the Middle East with King Abdullah II during his visit to Jordan as part of a state visit to Turkey and the Middle East on 9-15 April 2025.
Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia, despite its geographical distance from the conflict, has a strategic position as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world.
Furthermore, as a non-aligned and active participant, Indonesia's role has gained trust from the international community. Prabowo stated, "I believe this position places on us a responsibility. Therefore, I convey that Indonesia is ready to play a role when requested by all parties involved, and we are ready to act according to Indonesia's capacity and ability."
In a show of humanitarian commitment to Gaza, Prabowo mentioned that the Indonesian government has sent medical aid and a health team currently operating in Gaza. He also emphasized Indonesia's readiness to help injured victims, children, and civilian casualties affected by the conflict in Palestine.
Prabowo instructed Foreign Minister Sugiono to discuss the mechanism with the Palestinian authorities. However, Prabowo reminded that the presence of the victims in Indonesia is temporary. "When they recover and if the situation in Gaza allows it, they must return to their hometown," said Prabowo.
President Prabowo's state visit commenced with a trip to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on early Wednesday, 9 April 2025. The entourage took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase, East Jakarta, at 00:54 WIB. Prabowo stated, "I will depart shortly with a limited delegation, and some ministers have already left and will meet me at several locations."
His first state visit is to Abu Dhabi, where he will meet with President Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to consult on current world geopolitical and geoeconomic developments. They will then fly directly to Ankara for a state visit in response to the Turkish President's visit to Indonesia some time ago. In Turkey, Prabowo will attend a diplomatic forum in Antalya.
Besides geopolitics, he will also discuss industrial, trade, education, and cultural cooperation with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He added, "We have a fairly broad and comprehensive relationship with Turkey." On 12 April, Prabowo's state visit will continue to Cairo, Egypt, where he will meet with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Subsequently, Prabowo will travel to Doha, Qatar, to finalize agreements between Qatar and Indonesia, including signing various strategic agreements. From Doha, Prabowo will directly head to Jordan. His state visit will take place from 9 April to 15 April 2025.
