TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) has stipulated that a number of documents required from presidential and vice presidential candidates, including diplomas and graduation certificates, are exempt from public access. This regulation was formalized through KPU Decision Number 731 of 2025, signed by KPU Chair Mochammad Afifuddin in Jakarta on August 21, 2025.

"The documents for presidential and vice presidential candidate requirements are designated as exempted public information by the General Election Commission," the decision states.

A total of 16 types of documents are classified as confidential. These are listed in the second paragraph of the decision and include diplomas, graduation certificates, legalized statements of graduation, curriculum vitae, a brief profile, and the track record of prospective candidates.

"The public information stated in the second paragraph is exempted for a period of five years, unless the party whose confidentiality is disclosed gives written consent," the decision, signed by Mochammad Afifuddin, further clarifies.

However, the possibility of disclosing the documents of presidential and vice-presidential candidates remains open if the request for information is related to the disclosure of someone's position in public office.
