TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Probolinggo regency government is temporarily closing the access to Mount Bromo tourism, especially in Wonokerto Village, Sukapura Sub-district, to commemorate Nyepi (Day of Silence) and to welcome the 2026 Eid al-Fitr.
"The closure refers to the Probolinggo Regency Indonesian Hindu Dharma Council (PHDI) circular letter which enters into effect from Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 06:00 a.m. local time to Friday, March 20, 2026 at 06:00 a.m.," said the Head of the Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office of Probolinggo Regency, Her Mulyadi, in the regency on Thursday, as quoted from Antara.
During this period, all tourist activities to the Mount Bromo area are completely stopped to respect the observance of Nyepi by the Tengger community. Additionally, this moment also provides an opportunity for Muslims, especially tourists, to perform a gathering with their families ahead of Eid al-Fitr. The closure is a form of tolerance among religious communities as well as an effort to maintain the sanctity of worship.
Her explained that the closure of tourist access is a form of respect for the Tengger community to observe Nyepi Day in peace and serenity. "On the other hand, we also provide an opportunity for tourists who celebrate Eid al-Fitr to gather with their families," he said.
He also urged the public and tourists not to visit on the closing dates because all access will be unavailable for tourist activities. "For tourists planning to visit after the reopening on March 21, 2026 in the afternoon, we recommend making online ticket reservations well in advance as there is usually a surge in visits after the closure," he added.
He hopes that the public can perceive Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr as an opportunity to strengthen tolerance and togetherness. "May this sacred moment bring peace, strengthen mutual respect, and provide blessings for everyone."
