TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of members of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board gathered at the private residence of General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf in Menteng, Central Jakarta. That Thursday evening, November 13, 2025, the host invited his close circle to discuss the content of his meeting the day before with NU Rais Am (supreme leader), Miftachul Akhyar.
In the hour-long meeting, Yahya told his guests that Miftachul had conveyed several points regarding the NU management. Among them were the organization’s financial affairs and Yahya’s relationship with pro-Israel groups.
PBNU People’s Welfare Division Head Rumadi Ahmad, who attended the meeting, said Yahya described Miftachul’s remarks as slander. Yahya, according to Rumadi, said he would not remain silent in the face of such accusations. “He will fight back,” Rumadi said in Jakarta on Tuesday, November 25.
Miftachul’s views, initially delivered orally, later appeared in a written meeting memo dated Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Aston Kemayoran City Hotel in Central Jakarta. Signed by Miftachul, the two-page document contains the results of his deliberations with his two deputies in PBNU’s Syuriah (the Advisory Council).
