TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The floods hitting Malaysia are continuing to spread, forcing thousands from their homes. CNA reported that according to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), a total of 11,009 people from 3,839 families across seven states, namely Kedah, Kelantan, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Terengganu, and Selangor, had been affected as of 6 a.m. on Monday, November 24.
No casualties have been reported. Sixty temporary relief centres have been opened across the affected areas to accommodate the evacuees.
Kelantan Records the Highest Number of Evacuees
According to a Malay Mail report, Kelantan remains the most affected state, currently sheltering 8,248 evacuees from 3,022 families. This figure represents a sharp increase from the 7,830 people reported the day before.
The evacuees are being housed in 33 temporary relief centres across four districts: Kota Bharu, Tumpat, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh.
The situation in Kelantan is described as still critical. According to Infobencana JKM, heavy rainfall is persisting. Infopublic Banjir also reported that Serdang in Gunong Barat, Bachok, recorded 33.5 millimeters of rain in just one hour earlier today at 6 a.m.
Other Affected States
Perlis experienced the second-highest surge in evacuees after Kelantan. The number drastically increased to 811 people from 243 families, a significant jump from only 114 people from 35 families the previous night.
In Penang, the number of evacuees has risen to 242 people from 57 families. According to the JKM Infobencana website, the government has opened two additional PPS, bringing the total to four.

The Permatang Pasir National School in Seberang Perai Tengah is now accommodating 50 people. SK Lahar Yooi in Seberang Perai Utara is still awaiting the arrival of evacuees. Perak also recorded an increase in the number of flood victims, while Kedah and Terengganu experienced a decrease. Selangor is the latest state to be affected by the floods.
Continuous rain triggered a landslide in Wang Kelian, Perlis, on Sunday. Approximately 400 residents were initially trapped, but all were declared safe and have since evacuated to a mosque on higher ground.
