TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has yet to question North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution in connection with the bribery case surrounding road construction projects in his province. The investigation has moved at a sluggish pace. The case files of three provincial officials accused of accepting bribes were only submitted to the Medan Corruption Court after three months.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said investigators found no money trail leading to Bobby. Still, he acknowledged that the public believes Bobby must have known about the irregularities behind the Sipiongot- Border of Labuhanbatu and Hutaimbaru-Sipiongot road projects in North Padang Lawas. Yet, the KPK claimed they did not find any flow of money to Bobby.
Below are excerpts from Tempo’s interview with Budi, conducted by reporters Mohammad Khory Alfarizi and Lani Diana at KPK headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Why hasn’t Bobby been questioned in this case?
Investigators haven’t found any link between the case and Bobby Nasution. The head of the investigative task force has said the same. Of course, the general public tends to assume it’s impossible that a governor wouldn’t know. But in fact, there’s no money trail to him.
Isn’t it because investigators are reluctant to summon Bobby?
No. Both the investigators and the head of the task force confirmed they haven’t found evidence of Bobby’s involvement.
