The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a search at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office on Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat, Central Jakarta. The search is related to the alleged corruption of the hajj quota for the period of 2023-2024.

Based on Tempo's observation, the KPK investigative team left the location of the search around 11:40 PM. They were seen leaving the Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah Affairs (PHU) building of the Ministry of Religious Affairs through the back door.

The investigators carried two large blue and black suitcases and a small black suitcase. They then departed the location in five black cars.

According to information received by Tempo, KPK is known to have conducted the search on the 5th and 6th floors of the building. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the investigators seized several pieces of evidence from the Ministry of Religious Affairs office during the search.

"At the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, the team secured evidence in the form of documents and electronic evidence," said Budi on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

In addition to the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, KPK also conducted a search at a house in Depok. During the search in Depok, KPK confiscated a four-wheeled vehicle or car and some assets.

Budi stated that KPK appreciates and expresses gratitude to the Ministry of Religious Affairs. "Because during the process they have been helpful and cooperative," said Budi in his written statement.

Vice Minister of Religious Affairs (Wamenag) Raden Muhammad Syafi'i stated that his ministry will be open in undergoing the ongoing legal process. He ensures that nothing will be concealed in the case.

"It should not be concealed, of course. All legal processes anywhere in this republic, we as citizens should help law enforcement authorities," he said.

KPK has elevated the hajj quota corruption case to the investigation stage. KPK utilized a general investigation order issued on Thursday, August 7, 2025. "The investigators chose to use the general investigation order because we still want to explore some roles," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu at the Red and White Building of KPK on early Saturday, August 9, 2025.

In this case, KPK has prevented former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from traveling abroad. "On August 11, 2025, KPK issued a decision on the travel ban abroad," Budi said on August 12.

In addition to Yaqut, KPK also prevented two others from going abroad, namely Ishfah Abidzal Aziz, former special staff to Minister Yaqut and the owner of the hajj and umrah travel agency Maktour, Fuad Hasan Masyhur. Budi stated that the travel ban for the three individuals is valid for six months.
