TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto spoke about the latest development in the energy transition financing scheme through Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) for Indonesia. The JETP funding commitment has risen from US$20 billion to US$21.4 billion or Rp356.2 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp16,646 per US dollar).
Airlangga revealed this after a meeting with the representatives of the International Partner Group (IPG)—the countries committed to supporting JETP funding.
"We discussed the renewed commitment of JETP. For Indonesia, the commitment has increased from US$20 billion to US$21.4 billion," he said during a press conference in Jakarta on December 5.
The funding, Airlangga explained, comprised US$11 billion from donor countries within IPG and US$10 billion from GFANZ, a global coalition of leading financial institutions.
Through the JETP program, Indonesia has received financing aid commitments from developed countries to accelerate the energy transition. This funding commitment was initially agreed upon at the G20 High-Level Conference in Bali in November 2022. Some of the projects that will be funded include the early retirement of coal-fired power plants.
Of the announced funding commitment, US$3.1 billion has been mobilized, while about US$5.5 billion in additional funding is currently under negotiation for several concrete projects.
Some existing projects include the Green Corridor Sulawesi, the dieselization program, Geothermal projects in Sumatra, and a Waste to Energy project in collaboration with the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC).
Furthermore, there are plans to run a tender for renewable energy projects. "This is a significant commitment. US$21.4 billion is a substantial fund, and it depends on Indonesia and cross-ministries to accelerate," Airlangga said.
