TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 50-year-old Japanese woman has been formally charged with sexual harassment for allegedly kissing Jin of BTS without consent during an official fan event last year.
The Eastern District Prosecutors' Office in Seoul confirmed that the indictment followed an investigation which established that the act was sudden and done without permission.
Unauthorized Kiss at Official Fan Meeting
The incident occurred on June 13, 2024, a day after Jin completed his mandatory military service. He was attending a “Hug Event,” part of the 2024 BTS FESTA, an annual celebration of the band’s debut anniversary.
Thousands of fans gathered at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul, where Jin greeted them individually during a hugging session.
When it was the suspect’s turn, she stepped onto the stage for a hug but unexpectedly kissed Jin on the neck. The moment was captured on camera and widely shared on X and Instagram, prompting backlash online and sparking debates over the violation of personal boundaries.
According to Allkpop, the incident led to a wave of complaints filed through the South Korean National Petition System, accusing the woman of committing an indecent act in public.
Songpa Police initially suspended the case in March 2025 after the suspect failed to appear for questioning.
She later voluntarily appeared, and investigators found sufficient evidence to refer the case to prosecution.
A Pattern of Boundary Violations at Fan Events
This incident is not the first time Jin has faced inappropriate fan behavior. At previous events, he has been subjected to unwanted touching, excessive pulling during queues, and crowding that required security intervention.
Additionally, Jin’s private locations have been targeted and shared by anonymous accounts, raising serious privacy concerns. He has repeatedly expressed appreciation for fan closeness but emphasized that impulsive or aggressive behavior can compromise an artist’s safety and comfort.
This case highlights the potential risks even at organized fan events and marks the first formal sexual harassment charge filed against Jin, reinforcing the legal consequences of violating personal boundaries.
