TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Environmental Agency is deploying 1,800 cleanliness officers to ensure the capital remains clean during the 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 16-17, 2025.
The agency's head, Asep Kuswanto, stated that the officers will work in two shifts at key locations, including the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, the Monas area, City Hall, and along the carnival route from Sudirman to Thamrin.
The agency is also deploying a fleet of support vehicles and equipment, including 20 mobile toilets, 14 road sweepers, 12 compactors, 12 inorganic waste trucks, 65 dustbins, and hundreds of plastic bags.
"An event of this magnitude requires extra preparation, not only in terms of the number of officers but also in the placement strategy of the fleets and waste management during the event," Asep said in a written statement on Friday, August 15, 2025.
The Independence Day events will begin on the evening of August 16 with the Honor Ceremony and Sacred Reflection at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, attended by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
On August 17, activities will run from morning to night, including the national ceremony at Monas, the provincial ceremony at City Hall, a People's Party at Monas, and an evening carnival from Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to the Semanggi Bridge. The most crowded points for the carnival are expected to be at Monas, Sarinah, Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Dukuh Atas, and Sampoerna Strategic.
Asep detailed that personnel from all sub-agencies and technical management units would be deployed. The Jakarta Central Environmental Agency will provide 400 personnel, with North, West, South, and East Jakarta each contributing 200. Additionally, the Waste Management Unit of the Water Agency will deploy 500 personnel, and the Integrated Waste Management Unit will provide 100.
Sanitation facilities have been strategically placed at various points. Ten mobile toilets are located in the Monas area, three in front of the Kempinski Hotel, three in front of the Pullman Hotel, two in Sumenep Park, and one each in Dukuh Atas and Sampoerna Strategic. The road sweepers will focus on the Monas area and along the carnival route.
Asep also stated that the agency has prepared special cleanliness teams for the MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) tent areas, both inside Monas and on surrounding streets like Sunda, Pamekasan, Tanjung Karang, Galunggung, Karet Pasar Baru Timur III, and near Danantara Guest House.
"The target is clear: a lively celebration without leaving a trace of waste. We want the public to leave with a good impression, not with views of waste piles," Asep said.
He believes that with cross-regional coordination and adequate infrastructure, Jakarta will remain clean, orderly, and comfortable throughout the Independence Day commemorations.
