TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan (locally referred to as Zulhas) announced the government's plan to accelerate the construction for national self-sufficiency in food, energy, and water. This is outlined in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 14 of 2025.
At least four areas have been designated as priority regions to support the strategic project, namely Merauke, Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and South Sumatra. "We are asked to coordinate through the Inpres, not separately within each ministry," said Zulhas at the Graha Mandiri Building, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Zulhas mentioned that Inpres 14 of 2025 will produce policies that bolster sovereignty for food, energy, and water resilience. He also maintained that rice and corn are not the be-all and end-all of food resilience. "It's food in a broader sense, meaning fish, salt, cows, milk, oil, and other materials," he said.
In line with the issuance of Inpres 14 of 2025, Zulhas stated that the government also issued Presidential Decree Number 19 of 2025, appointing him as the Chair of the Acceleration Team for the self-sufficiency regions outlined in the Inpres. "It involves many, including 27 ministries. The first task is coordination so our policies will result in national strategic projects," Zulhas said.
Within less than a month, Zulhas will resolve issues related to the self-sufficiency appointed regions that faced obstacles to operate. "Earlier, it was discussed that obstacles that have not been resolved for 5 to 6 months will be solved by us. Hopefully within 2 to 3 weeks," he said.
