TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has dispatched four aircraft to support disaster response operations in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra as severe flooding and landslides continue to affect the region.
The deployment, carried out under the direct instruction of President Prabowo Subianto, includes three Hercules aircraft and one A400M transport plane, which are heading to the nearest airports to the affected areas to facilitate rapid delivery of emergency supplies.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained on Friday, November 28, 2025, that the aircraft would land in Padang (West Sumatra), Silangit (North Sumatra), and airports in Banda Aceh and Lhokseumawe (Aceh) to ensure aid reaches the hardest-hit communities.
“These flights are part of an ongoing effort to provide immediate relief. Since the first day of the disaster on November 25, the President has directed that aid be sent without delay,” Teddy said at Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase in Jakarta, as broadcast on the President’s Secretary’s YouTube channel.
Over the past few days, aid has been transported using both military and civilian aircraft. All supplies are tailored to on-the-ground needs based on direct coordination between the central government and local authorities.
Teddy emphasized that President Prabowo and related ministries have been in constant communication with regional heads to assess conditions and ensure appropriate support.
Aid sent so far includes emergency equipment for rapid evacuation and recovery: 150 tents, 64 rubber boats, generators, electrical assistive devices, 100 communication devices, ready-to-eat food, and medical teams from both the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Ministry of Health.
The recent floods and landslides have been triggered by extreme rainfall. In North Sumatra, heavy rain since November 25, 2025, has affected Sibolga, North Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, and South Tapanuli.
Abdul Muhari, Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center at Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), reported that floodwaters have flowed strongly, inundating homes and carrying vehicles and infrastructure along with mud, tree trunks, building debris, and household waste.
In Aceh, at least nine cities and regencies, including Bireuen, Lhokseumawe, East Aceh, Langsa, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues, Aceh Singkil, North Aceh, and South Aceh, have been affected by floods since November 18, 2025.
The Aceh Disaster Management Agency noted that heavy rainfall, strong winds, and unstable geological conditions have contributed to both flooding and landslides across the province.
