TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has dismissed Immanuel Ebenezer as the deputy minister of manpower after he was named as a suspect in a corruption case.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) designated the former deputy minister as a suspect in an extortion case against companies processing occupational safety and health (OSH) certification at the Ministry of Manpower.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said Prabowo has issued a presidential decree on Noel's dismissal. "The president has signed a presidential decree on the dismissal of Immanuel Ebenezer from his post as the deputy minister of manpower," said Prasetyo in an official statement on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The Gerindra Party politician said Prabowo respects the legal process as KPK. According to Prabowo, this case must serve as a lesson for his aides at the Red and White cabinet.
Prasetyo mentioned that Prabowo instructed his aides to stay away from corrupt practices. He also urged them to work hard against corruption. "Everyone must work hard to eradicate criminal acts of corruption," said Prasetyo.
Yesterday, the KPK named Noel as a suspect in an alleged extortion case involving companies seeking Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) or K3 certification from the Ministry of Manpower. Besides Noel, the KPK named 10 other individuals as suspects, bringing the total suspects to 11.
This case is the result of the sting operation KPK launched on Wednesday, where it arrested 14 individuals in various locations, consisting of employees in the Ministry of Manpower and private entities.
KPK Chair Setyo Budiyanto said Noel was involved in the extortion case to issue OSH certificates. Workers were supposed to pay only the official fee of Rp275,000. However, they were asked to pay up to Rp6 million.
KPK's Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, said the extortion practices have been ongoing since 2019. Despite Immanuel Ebenezer only taking office in 2024, he's aware of the practice and demanded a share.
"Noel requested and received Rp3 billion and a Ducati motorcycle," said Asep.
