TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has announced a series of transportation fare discounts for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holiday period, known locally as Nataru, in an effort to ease travel costs and encourage public mobility.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto outlined the program after a ministerial meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. “The discounted fares cover train services, sea transportation, inter-island ferries, and air travel,” he said.
In addition to transportation incentives, the government has prepared 244 tourism events across the country to support holiday travel and boost local economies.
Below are the key details of the Nataru transportation discounts:
1. Train Discounts
Economy-class train passengers will receive discounts of around 30 percent for travel between December 22, 2025, and January 10, 2026.
A total of 156 regular trains and 26 additional trains will operate during the period, with discounts applicable to 1,509,080 passengers.
2. Toll Road Discounts
The Ministry of Public Works will offer toll road discounts on December 22, 23, and 31, 2025. The reductions range from 10 to 20 percent across 26 toll road segments, including 2 in Greater Jakarta, 9 along the Trans-Java Toll Road, 3 outside Java, and 12 on the Trans-Sumatra network.
3. Airline Ticket Discounts
Airline passengers traveling in economy class will benefit from fare reductions of 13–14 percent from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026, according to the Ministry of Transportation. The offer applies to all domestic routes.
4. Pelni Ships and Ferry Crossings
Passengers traveling on Pelni-operated ships will receive a 20 percent discount on tickets purchased between December 17, 2025, and January 10, 2026. Ferry crossings will also offer discounts from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026.
