TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen has moved into the women's singles final of the Chennai Open 2025 after defeating Thai player Lanlana Tararudee in a fierce semi-final match in India on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Janice, the fourth seed in the WTA 250 level tournament, won in straight sets via tie-break, 7-6(6), 7-6(5). "It was an incredible match. We've grown up playing together since we were juniors, and I can say that I'm fortunate to win it today," Janice said after the match, as quoted from the official WTA website.
Despite only recording two aces, well below Tararudee's 12 aces, Janice demonstrated greater solidity with just two double faults. WTA statistics show that the match was evenly contested, but Janice's composure and mental strength made the difference.
In the first set, the match was closely fought. In the second set, the 23-year-old player even fell behind 2-5 before rallying to turn the tables. "I just focused on chasing every point and not thinking too far ahead. Stayed focused and fought for every ball," Janice said about her comeback in the second set.
In the final, Janice will face the winner of the other semi-final match between Australian player Kimberly Birrell (seventh seed) and Taipei player Joanna Garland.
Aside from the singles event, Janice Tjen will also compete in the doubles quarter-finals later in the evening, partnering with Aldila Sutjiadi. The second-seeded Indonesian duo will take on the Indian pair of Riya Bhatia and Rutuja Bhosale. "I still have a doubles match today. I want to finish the day strong and only then think about the final tomorrow," Janice said.
