TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Sugiono, reaffirmed that Indonesia has never engaged in negotiations with Israel regarding the transfer of residents from Gaza, Palestine.
"We have never negotiated with them (Israel)," he said after the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly 2025 at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, August 15, 2025, according to Antara.
The statement came in response to reports that Israel is negotiating with five countries for the transfer of Gaza residents, including Indonesia.
Sugiono also confirmed that the Indonesian government is exploring alternative locations to provide care for injured Gaza residents, with Galang Island in the Riau Islands as one option. He emphasized that offering medical assistance in Indonesia represents a humanitarian effort for Palestine, as conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto during his visit to Jordan in April.
He added that President Prabowo has consulted with Gulf Cooperation Council member countries regarding the medical care plan for Gaza residents in Indonesia.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that any evacuation and medical aid plan on Galang Island will only proceed with approval from the Palestinian authorities.
"Everything will be ready as soon as it is agreed upon by Palestine. We are prepared to implement it if it is supported by all regional countries and in line with the resolutions of the Arab League," said Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir.
In his State Address on the same day, Prabowo stated that Indonesia continues to actively advocate for the recognition of Palestine and to lead discussions on a two-state solution.
