TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian women’s compound archery team ended a 12-year gold-medal drought with a dramatic victory at the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand.
Competing at Football Field 1 in Bang Kapi, Bangkok, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Nurisa Dian Ashrifah, Ratih Zilizati Fadhly, and Yurike Nina Bonita Pereira held their nerve until the final arrow to edge Singapore 228–227.
The triumph marked a historic moment for Indonesian women’s compound archery. Indonesia last stood atop the podium in this event at the 2013 SEA Games in Naypyidaw. In the years that followed, the team settled for bronze at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Games and silver at the 2019 edition in the Philippines.
Ratih Zilizati Fadhly admitted the final was emotionally draining, heightened by the weight of history on the team’s shoulders.
“The match was full of drama. Thank you so much to the people of Indonesia. Your prayers meant a lot to us,” Ratih said after the match, as quoted by Antara.
She said the gold medal also served as a response to doubts that had lingered over the team, particularly after they failed to reach the podium at the Asian Games.
“The pressure was very high because we were trying to make history again after a long time. At the previous Asian Games, we narrowly missed out on a medal. With a new team and amazing teammates, thank God we were able to answer everything with gold,” she said.
Ratih added that the victory proved the Indonesian women’s compound team belongs at the highest level of competition in Southeast Asia.
“We want to show that we are among the best athletes in Indonesia, and today we proved it,” she said.
For Yurike Nina Bonita Pereira, the gold carried special personal meaning. It was her first SEA Games gold, after winning silver in the Philippines in 2019.
“I was really focused on winning gold because I had never achieved it before,” Yurike said. “The bonus isn’t the main thing, but it does motivate us and makes us feel appreciated.”
The gold medal completes Indonesia’s strong showing in archery at the SEA Games 2025 and signals a resurgence of the women’s compound event, which had waited more than a decade to reclaim the top step of the podium.
