TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost airline Indonesia AirAsia ensures that all Airbus A320 fleet operated in Indonesia remains safe and airworthy. This announcement comes amidst the Emergency Airworthiness Directive issued by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on November 28, 2025.
"All Indonesia AirAsia aircraft are declared safe and airworthy for operation, and do not require software rollback processes," said Acting Chief Executive Officer Indonesia AirAsia Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman in a written statement on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
The safety mandate requires the inspection and rollback of certain software components on Airbus A318 to A321 aircraft, including the Elevator and Aileron Computer (ELAC) command control. This instruction became effective on November 29, 2025, at 06:59 a.m. Jakarta Time.
The Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation has adopted the mandate for all flight operators in the country.
To comply with this mandate, Achmad stated that the AirAsia Aviation Group immediately started running the software rollback for the affected fleet globally, including in Indonesia.
The inspection results showed that the affected software components were not installed on Indonesia AirAsia's fleet. The airline continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation, Airbus, and AirAsia Aviation Group to ensure that all safety standards are met.
Passengers are urged to monitor the latest flight information through the AirAsia MOVE app, AskBo, or their registered email.
Previously, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation instructed all airlines operating Airbus A320 to ensure that the ELAC is airworthy before the next flight. This regulation was implemented following findings of potential system disruptions that could affect flight controls.
Director General of Civil Aviation Lukman F. Laisa said the instruction could cause potential operational disruptions. "This is expected to cause schedule changes considering the large number of A320 fleets operating in Indonesia and across the world," Lukman said, as quoted from a written statement on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
In Indonesia, there are six airlines working with Airbus A320, namely Batik Air, Super Air Jet, Citilink Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, Pelita Air, and TransNusa. Out of a total of 207 Airbus A320 units, Lukman said, 143 are currently active.
But 38 others are confirmed to be affected and require repairs, which are estimated to take three to five days.
Based on this situation, Lukman requested passengers with travel schedules from November 30 to December 4, 2025, to recheck their flight status due to potential delays or cancellations.
Lukman also requested airports and airlines to prepare service mitigation measures in the event of operational disruptions. "Safety remains the top priority," he said.
