TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has uncovered a case of drug trafficking involving an international syndicate originating from Iran, China, and Malaysia.
The Director of the Narcotics Crime Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Grand Commissioner Ahmad David, revealed the seizure of a total of 516 kilograms of crystal meth in a press conference on Friday, August 15, 2025. "The confiscation of more than half a ton of crystal meth," David said.
According to David, the confiscated crystal meth has a value of hundreds of billions of rupiahs. "If calculated, we have secured approximately Rp516 billion or more than half a trillion," said David.
David explained that the hundreds of kilograms of drugs originated from abroad. "These goods came from Iran and China, then transited through a port in Malaysia before entering Sumatra," said David.
Once in Sumatra, the crystal meth was distributed to Java via land routes. "They used vehicles with modified compartments so the presence of crystal meth could not be detected," said David.
The case was first uncovered from a report by the public regarding alleged drug trafficking involving a foreign national with the initials ES. As a result of the investigation, the police arrested a total of seven perpetrators.
David stated that the seven perpetrators were arrested at various locations and at different times. "7 suspects, with 2 individuals as ringleaders and 5 others as couriers," said David.
The suspects have been charged under either Article 114, paragraph 2, or Article 112, paragraph 2, of the Narcotics Law. "Where the punishment is the death penalty and life imprisonment," David told the press.
The police are also considering charging the perpetrators with money laundering offenses. "We will impoverish the perpetrators, track and trace their financial transactions to make them regret," said David.
