TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A worker at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport has been suspended for shouting "Free Palestine" over the radio to Israel's El Al Airlines, French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said, as reported by Anadolu.
Tabarot confirmed Tuesday night that the incident, which occurred Monday morning, is under investigation following a complaint from the El Al crew. He said the staff member violated radio communication rules, which are meant to cover only safety and air traffic matters.
"He has been barred from performing any duties until further notice. A disciplinary procedure was immediately initiated," Tabarot added on X, the American social media platform. The ministry began its probe after El Al itself reported the comments.
El Al, calling the incident "unprofessional and inappropriate," informed the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority, warning that deviations from standard procedures could endanger take-off safety.
The incident comes amid a broader wave of harassment against El Al in France, including vandalism at its Paris headquarters last week.
Genocide in Gaza
International outrage is mounting over Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 61,722 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, with 123 deaths and 437 injuries reported in the last 24 hours alone. Total casualties since the war began now stand at 154,525.
The ministry said many victims remain trapped under rubble, with ambulances and civil defense unable to reach them. In the past 24 hours, 21 Palestinians were killed and 185 injured while trying to access humanitarian aid, raising the total killed while seeking help to 1,859 and injured to 13,594 since May 27.
Starvation has also claimed eight lives, including three children, bringing the total hunger-related deaths to 235, with 106 children among them.
The Israeli military has continued its Gaza operations since March 18, killing 10,201 people and injuring 42,484, undermining ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreements made in January.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the enclave.
