TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TV Famous Judge Frank Caprio has passed away from recurring cancer at age 88, just a day after he’d asked for prayers from beloved followers. According to a statement posted to his Instagram account, the former Providence, Rhode Island, judge “passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.”
Judge Frank Caprio, who earned the nickname “the nicest judge in the world,” had millions of social media followers and received multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his heartwarming viral court moments from the show "Caught in Providence."
“Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond,” the caption of the post read. “His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.”
Local reports state that Gov. Dan McKee has directed all Rhode Island flags to be lowered to half-staff as a tribute that will remain in place until the day of his burial.
“He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend,” the post continued. “His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired. In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world – just as he did every day.”
