TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – European football giants Chelsea and AC Milan are expected to bring their best available squads for their preseason clash at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) in Jakarta, according to match promoter Nine Sport Inc.
Nine Sport founder Arif Putra Wicaksono said both clubs have committed to fielding their top available players for the Indonesia Super Cup 2026: Chelsea vs AC Milan, scheduled for August 8, 2026.
"From the beginning, our commitment as Nine Sport has always been to include a best player available clause in the contract, ensuring the best players are present and play," Arif said during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Star Players Expected to Feature in Jakarta
Arif said several high-profile names from both teams, including Joao Felix, Cole Palmer, and Luka Modric, are expected to participate in the 2026/2027 preseason tour in Jakarta.
However, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who is still on holiday following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has not yet been confirmed for the match. Arif said there remains a possibility that the Argentina international will travel to Jakarta with the Blues squad.
According to Arif, the presence of star players from the two European clubs is one of the main attractions of the exhibition match.
"These players are part of the main product that makes this match attractive," he said.
Match to Reach Global Audience
Arif said the management of both clubs has agreed to bring their strongest possible squads to Jakarta while meeting millions of supporters in Indonesia.
The match is expected to be broadcast in 70 countries, with ticket sales already surpassing 50 percent of stadium capacity, according to the organizer.
Arif estimated that Chelsea has tens of millions of supporters in Indonesia, while AC Milan has an even larger fan base, reaching around 40 million fans.
He expressed hope that the event would not only provide entertainment for football fans but also promote Indonesia’s image internationally and strengthen the country’s position as a destination for major European clubs.
The arrival of Chelsea and AC Milan, more than a decade after the last appearance of top European teams in Jakarta, is also expected to encourage organizers to bring more elite clubs to Indonesia in the future.
