TEMPO.COJakarta - A joint team continues evacuation efforts for the victims of the building collapse at the Al Khozyni Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. As of Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), 91 individuals are presumed buried under the debris, according to student attendance data.

Abdul Muhari, Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), stated that 332 personnel have been deployed in a rotational search and rescue (SAR) operation to ensure team sustainability.

This joint force includes personnel from BASARNAS, the East Java and Sidoarjo Provincial/District Disaster Management Agencies (BPBDs), BPBDs from surrounding districts (Jombang, Mojokerto, and Nganjuk), the Provincial Public Works Department, the Social Ministry’s Tagana, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Police.

"Heavy equipment has also been prepared, but it cannot be used at the moment for fear that the vibrations may worsen the condition of the collapse," Muhari said in a written statement on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Current rescue efforts are focused on manual techniques, primarily digging holes and crevices to evacuate potential survivors. The joint SAR team has detected signs of six survivors within one segment of the collapsed structure. "Through the existing crevices, rescuers have provided food and drinks to sustain the condition of the survivors," he noted.

The evacuation process awaits an assessment from Basarnas, which is commanding the operation. If the assessment confirms no further survivors are present, the next phase will involve using heavy equipment to recover the deceased victims still trapped.

"The team is working with construction experts to formulate technical steps for safely clearing the debris along the evacuation route without triggering further collapses," Muhari added.

Survivors and Medical Treatment Update

Preliminary data, also valid as of Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. WIB, indicates that approximately 100 individuals have been affected by this incident. "Out of that number, 26 individuals are still receiving inpatient care, 70 have been discharged, three have been reported dead, and one patient has been referred to a hospital in Mojokerto," Muhari detailed.

Several health facilities are the primary referral centers for handling the victims, including RSUD RT Notopuro, RS Siti Hajjar, RS Delta Surya, RS Sheila Medika, and RS Unair. Specifically, RSUD RT Notopuro is treating 40 patients, with eight currently hospitalized and two reported deceased. RS Siti Hajjar is managing 52 patients, including 11 inpatients, one death, and one patient transfer.

"RS Delta Surya is treating six inpatients, RS Sheila Medika is handling one discharged patient, and RS Unair is treating one inpatient," Muhari confirmed.
