TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has analyzed the development of Tropical Cyclone Seed 95B, which was identified since November 21, 2025, in the eastern waters of Aceh, the Malacca Strait. The analysis indicates that Tropical Cyclone Seed 95B is triggering the potential of extreme weather such as heavy to extreme rain and strong winds in the regions of Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, and surrounding areas.
The Head of BMKG, Teuku Faisal Fathani, has urged the community in these four provinces to increase awareness of the potential extreme weather due to Tropical Cyclone Seed 95B. He mentioned that BMKG is currently monitoring the intensity of this tropical cyclone seed and requested relevant stakeholders to ensure mitigation measures to minimize its risks.
"Local governments are on alert for potential impacts of extreme weather such as flooding, coastal flooding, and fallen trees due to strong winds. In particular, fishermen and sea transportation operators must pay attention to the high waves that pose risks to maritime safety," said Faisal in his written statement on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
The Director of Meteorology at BMKG, Andri Ramdhani, explained that in the next 24 hours, Tropical Cyclone Seed 95B will directly impact the weather and sea waves in Indonesia, especially around Aceh and North Sumatra. Based on BMKG's analysis, this system has the potential to cause heavy to extreme rain in Aceh and North Sumatra, as well as in some parts of West Sumatra and Riau; and strong winds in most parts of northern Sumatra.
Andri added that Tropical Cyclone Seed 95B also has the potential to create high waves of 2.5 meters to 4 meters in the middle part of the Malacca Strait, the eastern waters of North Sumatra, and the western Indian Ocean from Aceh to Nias. Meanwhile, moderate waves (1.25-2.5 m) are likely to occur in the northern part of the Malacca Strait, the Rokan Hilir waters, and Dumai-Bengkalis.
"BMKG through TCWC Jakarta will continue intensive monitoring for a full 24 hours of this system's movement. BMKG emphasizes the importance of accessing official information through BMKG channels and avoiding the spread of unaccountable information," explained Andri.
