TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted that Jakarta and its surrounding areas have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain from midday to the afternoon on Sunday, 2 November 2025. An early warning for heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, has been issued for the areas of West Jakarta, East Jakarta, South Jakarta, as well as Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City, Bogor City and Regency, and Depok City.

Referring to the latest weather forecast, the weather in Jakarta and its surrounding areas is expected to be partly cloudy and mostly cloudy on Sunday morning. There is a possibility of light rain in some areas. Rain is expected to become widespread across most of the Jakarta metropolitan area from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time). BMKG predicts that the air temperature in Jakarta and its satellite cities will range from 24-30 degrees Celsius, except in Bogor, where it will be around 20-28 degrees Celsius.

Head of BMKG, Dwikorita Karnawati, previously mentioned that this month marks the peak of the rainy season. Starting in the western regions, the peak rainy season will gradually shift towards eastern Indonesia until February 2026.

Dwikorita explained that the peak of the rainy season will occur in the western part of Indonesia in November-December, while in the central and eastern parts of Indonesia, it will be in January-February next year. Only Papua and the northern part of Sulawesi are excluded because the rainy season in these areas is relatively uniform.

December 2025 and January 2026 are predicted to be the main peak periods of the rainy season for most parts of Indonesia. "It's a double peak (rainy season)," said Dwikorita in an official statement released online on Saturday afternoon, 1 November 2025.

Dwikorita urged the public to increase vigilance and preparedness during the main peak of the rainy season. As the potential for heavy or extreme rainfall increases, the risk of hydrometeorological disasters also rises.

The risk of extreme weather also increases as the Asian monsoon brings moist air masses from the north to Indonesia. There is also a positive anomaly in sea surface temperatures, which are warmer in most Indonesian waters. Sea surface temperatures are 0.5-3.0 degrees Celsius warmer than normal conditions.
