TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The airline Batik Air has officially commenced operating direct flights from Samarinda to Surabaya on Friday, August 1, 2025. This new route operates 7 times a week or daily.
"This non-stop flight connects two important cities with a duration of approximately 1 hour 40 minutes, without the need to transit in other cities," said Corporate Communications Strategic of Batik Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, in a written statement.
Danang stated that this new route is served using a modern generation Airbus A320-200 aircraft, which has 12 business class seats and 144 economy class seats. This route expands the Batik Air flight network in East Kalimantan, providing convenient access to East Java.
"The APT Pranoto Airport in Samarinda is now increasingly acting as the main gateway in and out of East Kalimantan," he said.
Easier Access to Umrah
Danang revealed several benefits of the Samarinda-Surabaya route. One benefit is easier access to Umrah. Passengers performing Umrah can now fly to Surabaya, stay with family or friends overnight, and continue to Jeddah the next day.
This route also supports business and work mobility by facilitating the travel of business people and professionals to develop businesses and accelerate logistics mobilization.
In addition, according to Danang, this flight also provides convenience for education and healthcare services. "Facilitating the travel of students, university students, and people with study, training, or health examination purposes in Surabaya."
Gateway to Tourist Destinations
Another benefit, said Danang, is that this route becomes a gateway to other tourist destinations. This is because Surabaya is a transportation hub that connects Samarinda with popular tourist destinations such as Bali, Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Kupang, and Malang.
