TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office claims to have been unaware of the House of Representatives' approval of President Prabowo Subianto's proposal to grant amnesty to former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong, also known as Tom Lembong. "I don't know yet, I just heard it from you," said Head of the Attorney General's Legal Information Center, Anang Supriatna, to reporters at the Attorney General's Crime Investigation Office building, on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Anang mentioned that the AGO is still in the process of filing an appeal against Tom Lembong's verdict. "We will review it first," he said.

Deputy House Speaker, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, announced the granting of abolition to Tom Lembong at 9:00 PM WIB (Indonesian Western Time) on Thursday, July 31, 2025. "The House of Representatives has provided consideration and approval of the President's Letter Number R.43/PRES/07/2025 dated July 30, 2025, regarding the House of Representatives' request for abolition of Tom Lembong," said Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco on Thursday night, July 31, 2025.

The approval to grant abolition and amnesty came after the government and the House of Representatives consisting of leaders and factions held a consultation meeting to provide consideration and approval of the President's Letter Number R.43/PRES/07/2025. Minister of Law and Human Rights, Suprtaman Andi Agtas, said that he proposed to Prabowo to grant abolition to Tom Lembong.

Supratman stated that with the granting of abolition, all ongoing legal processes against Tom Lembong will be stopped and will only await the President's decision as a follow-up action.

Prior to this, Former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong, commonly known as Tom Lembong, was found guilty of sugar import corruption during the period from 2015 to 2016. "Imposing a sentence on the defendant Thomas Trikasih Lembong with a prison sentence of 4 years and 6 months," said the Chief Judge Rianto Dennie Arsan Fatrika when reading the verdict at the Jakarta Corruption Court, on Friday, July 18, 2025. Tom was also ordered to pay a fine of Rp750 million. If unpaid, it will be replaced with a 6-month imprisonment.
