TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Persib Bandung club has advanced to the group stage of the 2025/2026 AFC Champions League II. They will face tough challenges against stronger opponents.
Persib advances to the group stage after defeating the Philippine representative, Manila Digger, with a score of 2-1 at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium on Wednesday, August 13. They will follow the footsteps of last season when they directly advanced to the group stage.
In the group stage, Persib is still awaiting the draw scheduled for Friday, August 15. However, from the determined pot allocation, the team could face formidable opponents.
Persib is placed in the Eastern Region and will compete with clubs from the same area. For the draw, Persib is grouped in Pot 4 alongside Cong An Hanoi FC, Eastren, and Tampines Rovers. This means that these three teams cannot be opponents for Persib, but other teams still can be.
Persib's potential opponents include clubs that have become mainstays in Asia. In the first pot, there are representatives from Japan, Gamba Osaka, and the South Korean club, Pohang Steelers. In another pot, there are also Bangkok United, BG Pathum United, Cong Anh Hanoi, and Selangor FC.
The coach of Persib Bandung, Bojan Hodak, admitted that his team still needs to improve its performance. This was evident from their performance against Manila Digger. "In the second half, physically we have not reached the ideal level," he said, as quoted on Persib's website.
Allocation of Pots for the Draw of the AFC Champions League II Eastern Region
