TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Social Affairs is set to trial the distribution of social assistance, locally known as bansos, across several regions through the Red and White Cooperatives (KDMP). Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that 900 cooperative units across various regions are ready to launch the initiative.
"The aid distribution will be carried out gradually through KDMP," he said during a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment office in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
According to Saifullah, the aid forms part of the Family Hope Program alongside non-cash staple food assistance valued at Rp200,000 per month. All aid will be disbursed in four installments every three months.
The Red and White Cooperatives (Koperasi Merah Putih) are designed as a vehicle to distribute government-subsidized staple goods. Nearby communities will gain direct access to essential goods at affordable prices.
"Beneficiaries will receive goods at competitive prices," Saifullah said.
Regarding the rollout, he noted that agents from state-owned bank association Himbara will operate directly within the KDMP units. This arrangement aligns with current regulations, which mandate state-owned banks Himbara and state-owned post office PT Pos Indonesia to handle the aid distribution.
"In the future, if there are regulatory changes, direct distribution through Koperasi Merah Putih without going through Himbara may become possible," he added.
The Ministry of Social Affairs has begun implementing the mandate of Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2025 on the Acceleration of the Formation of Red and White Village/Neighborhood Cooperatives. Under Instruction No. 11, the minister is tasked with encouraging aid recipients to join the cooperatives while facilitating the promotion and marketing of products created through social empowerment programs via the cooperatives.
Saifullah stated that the Red and White Cooperatives will also collaborate with Pos Indonesia to distribute the aid. Pos Indonesia will focus on reaching remote, frontier, and outermost regions, alongside elderly citizens and people with disabilities who require direct delivery. "Ultimately, there will be synergy," he said.
