Every year, the National Flora and Fauna Day (HCPSN) is commemorated on November 5th in Indonesia as a national momentum to increase public awareness of the conservation of Indonesian flora (puspa) and fauna (satwa).

This observance was first initiated in 1993 through Presidential Decree Number 4 of 1993 regarding National Animals and Flowers. Its main objective is to build concern, love, and pride for the country's biodiversity, while also encouraging efforts to protect against threats such as deforestation, illegal hunting, and climate change.

Google Doodle also celebrated National Flora and Fauna Day on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, with a creation that unites species from land, sea, and air, representing the biodiversity of Indonesia. This serves as an invitation to protect and appreciate all the unique plants (puspa) and animals (satwa) in Indonesia.

Another way to celebrate NFND 2025 is by visiting tourist destinations that focus on the conservation of flora and fauna. This activity not only supports conservation education, but also contributes to the local economy through sustainable ecotourism.

Here are five prominent tourist destinations in Indonesia rich in endemic flora and fauna, based on recommendations from official government agencies:

1. Komodo National Park, East Nusa Tenggara

This area is the main habitat for Komodo dragons (Varanus komodoensis), the largest lizards in the world, as well as endemic birds such as the yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea). Visitors can enjoy trekking, snorkeling, and wildlife observation on islands such as Rinca and Komodo. The area is closely managed to preserve wildlife populations.

2. Betung Kerihun National Park, West Kalimantan

As reported by the Indonesia.go.id portal, this area is a UNESCO world heritage site that offers exotic tourist attractions. Dubbed as the "biological paradise on the border," this 800,000-hectare national park is home to endemic flora such as Amyxa pluricormis and 89 species of orchids, as well as fauna such as the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) and clouded leopard. Visitors can explore the Kapuas River and tropical forests for nature tourism.

3. Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten

Ujung Kulon National Park was designated a National Geopark in 2023 and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 1992. The area is the last refuge of the critically endangered Javan rhinoceros and other endemic wildlife. It consists of 14 geological sites, 6 biodiversity sites, and 2 cultural sites spread across 8 districts in Pandeglang Regency. Some tourist attractions in the area include Peucang Island, Pulang Handeuleum, Mount Honje, Tamanjaya Village, Carita Beach, Wilungan Island, and Tanjung Layar Lighthouse, Mount Honje.

4. Bogor Botanical Gardens

Next, the Bogor Botanical Gardens, which is one of the popular tourist destinations. This place is known for its diverse collection of tropical plants. The ambiance is serene and cool, making it suitable for recreation as well as education about flora. Known as the oldest botanical garden in Southeast Asia, it covers an area of around 87 hectares and houses over 15,000 cultivated plant species

5. Baluran National Park

Located in Banyuputih, Situbondo, East Java, this national park is often referred to as the "African van Java." The area is managed through zoning, namely conservation, tourism, and rehabilitation zones. If you want to visit this area, it is recommended to obtain information from the official Baluran National Park website regarding open zones, entrance fees, and access.
