TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police is anticipating traffic congestion on several streets coinciding with the 212 Reunion Event at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Congestion is expected to occur in the afternoon.

Chief of Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner General Komarudin, stated that the police have prepared traffic flow engineering. The streets predicted to be congested are Jalan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Merdeka Timur, Jalan Merdeka Utara, and Jalan Merdeka Selatan.

"Therefore, we urge the people of Jakarta or those who are in Jakarta to avoid these streets," said Komarudin to reporters at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Office on Monday, December 1, 2025.

The Metro Jaya Regional Police has also prepared parking spaces for this event, but in limited numbers. Reunion participants arriving by bus will be directed to Jalan Haji Benyamin Sueb, while private vehicle drivers will be directed to park at the IRTI Monas and Istiqlal Mosque. "Then, the Pertamina [parking area] can also be used," said Komarudin.

Traffic diversion will be done situationally. "If it is predicted that there will still be significant crossings or mass mobilization, we will do the diversion earlier," he said.

If the roads are still passable based on the observations, the police will keep them open for community activities.

Komarudin suggested that reunion participants use public transportation considering the density of activities in Jakarta, especially during rush hours. "This way, we can anticipate the limited parking spaces available, as well as the movement of people coinciding with the end of the workday," he said.

The Metro Jaya Regional Police will deploy 1,214 security personnel to secure this event. The police anticipate the arrival of participants from outside the city at 67 points in rings 1, 2, and 3. "Including crowded intersections such as Harmoni, Tugu Tani, and Sarinah which may be impacted," said Komarudin.

The police estimate that the masses will start arriving in the evening, before the event begins with the congregational maghrib prayer around 6:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

The 212 Reunion is being held again this year, carrying the theme 'Revolution of Morals to Save the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia from Criminals and Liberate Palestine from Occupiers.' The event organizers estimate that this agenda will be attended by thousands of people from various elements of society.

This event is held to commemorate one of the major demonstrations in Indonesia that occurred on December 2, 2016, or the 212 Action ahead of the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) for DKI Jakarta. The demonstration, led by Rizieq Shihab together with the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI)-the former name is Islamic Brotherhood Front-saw thousands of people filling the Monas courtyard and the Sudirman-Thamrin streets at the time.

The mass action was held to demand an investigation into the blasphemy case committed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta at the time, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok. In the DKI Jakarta Pilkada at that time, Ahok lost to Anies Baswedan with the support of Rizieq and his followers.
